Betta Splendins (Custom Made Áo dài, machine-sewed, digital embroidery, speaker units) 2022

I’m using an Áo dài; a traditional feminine Vietnamese dress to fuck with gender. I’m thinking about my gender itself as Vietnamese. I’m thinking of the Betta Splendens, known also as the Siamese fighting fish and colloquially as the Betta Fish.

The Betta Fish native to Southeast Asia has a "remarkable and long history of domestication for fighting, followed by breeding for ornamental purposes, combined with one of the smallest vertebrate genomes at only ~450 megabase pairs (Mb) (11–13), makes betta an appealing subject for evolutionary genetic studies of domestication." It is given as a scientific fact that the Betta spawn readily in captivity. Adults can be kept in small aquaria, but the care of the young requires the best of food conditions and large aquaria otherwise mortality rates are high.

I've never encountered a native Betta fish, for me they're most commonly found at Petco stores, usually $2 for a male and $1 for a female.
